Many customers do not need high powered computers if they are simply looking to do basic tasks
[10/03 02:43AM]

The Cable Stable DLX is a completely redesigned edition of a unique accessory storage concept that the company first developed and introduced in 2000. The case, which looks and opens like a book, features a grid of elastic hold-downs in different sizes and orientations. The elastic strips "float" freely under reinforced retention strips, FPCBP101,so they can easily stretch and contract to accommodate a nearly limitless assortment of portable gadgets, cords, adapters, and other accessories.

Many customers do not need high powered computers if they are simply looking to do basic tasks. The refurbished laptops offered by Val-U-Computers provide enough computing power to run basic programs and games. They are also internet-ready and can be used to surf the web and access sites such as FaceBook and Twitter. Many of the refurbished laptops PA3331U-1BRS offered by Val-U-Computers are in a near-new condition and feature enough computing power to run the programs most basic computer users, college students, and even small business owners need.

The Nook, the e-reader developed by Barnes and Noble was faced with similar delays in its early days, but those were caused not by technical difficulties or inability to meet the official launch dates, but by the strong customer demand that exceeded inventories.

The X-Slim X360 is described by MSI(MSI Wind U100 Battery) as “the apex in slim computer technology” and uses “brilliant blending of the X360's rhombic and diamond designs.” This stylish aspect only supplements the laptop's specs, however, as the company promises not only a good performance but also a battery life on par with, if not better than, that of many netbooks.

The Intel Atom D processors are generally used in nettops, because of their entry-level processing power, whereas the Atom N chips serve netbooks quite well as part of the Pine Trail platform. With such devices evolving quickly, however, even gaining HD media capabilities from NVIDIA's ION graphics processor, the platform itself might need to evolve in order to keep up with the growing demand for improved performance.

Netbooks burst on the scene at the end of 2007 when Asus released its first Eee PC. The netbook hit an unthinkably low price for the time, coming in at $399. It weighed 2 pounds, ran Linux, and served up a tiny 7-inch display, a single-core 900MHz Intel Mobile CPU, and a 4GB solid-state drive. The Eee(Eee PC 900 battery) PC netbook was also notable for a feature it didn't have: an optical drive. Asus released a new Eee PC netbook seemingly every other week, and soon the major PC vendors caught on and entered the fray. The netbooks you'll find today feature slightly larger 10-inch displays (11 and 12-inch displays are also available), an Intel Atom or AMD Neo processor, a traditional spinning hard drive, and either Windows 7 (usually Starter Edition) or XP Home Edition. Thankfully, netbook prices still hover around the $400 price point.

These graphics capabilities are exploited by the display itself, which has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and uses the 16:9 aspect ratio. Advantages of this configuration include support for 100% of the HD+ sRGB color gamut and a 64GB SSD mini card, which enables the setting up of dual drive configurations.

You can do likewise with e-mail, though in addition to composing messages, Dial2Do lets you listen to those you've received. It works with a variety of third-party services: You can dictate Facebook/Twitter updates, add appointments to your Google Calendar, send a note to Evernote, PA3465U-1BRS,listen to local weather, and on and on. All this happens entirely hands-free. Besides safety, there's another perk: If your phone lacks a keyboard, you'll find that dictating text messages is a lot easier than pecking them out on a numeric keypad.

With the connection established, the E205's display is mirrored to your TV. Using the Push2TV's HDMI output for video and audio we were impressed with both the image and audio quality of the connection. There was some barely noticeable image degradation from the original source content, but when viewed from 10 or so feet away on a large-screen TV, BTP-63D1 Battery, you might not notice the difference. What is unmistakably noticeable, however, is the lag between what the E205 displays on its screen and what you see displayed on the TV. This delay is less than a second, but it is long enough that you're not going to want to use WiDi for any tasks that require real-time interaction, such as using productivity apps or especially for gaming.

April 3rd is the day that the new iPad will ship
[05/03 08:17PM]

Apple has officially released the launch date for the iPad on its web site. April 3rd is the day that the new iPad will ship. For those of you who just have to get your hands on one of these babies, pre-orders will begin on March 12.

iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touch™ interface makes surfing the web an entirely new experience, dramatically more interactive and intimate than on a computer. You can read and send email on iPad’s large screen and almost full-size “soft” keyboard or import photos from a Mac®, PC or digital camera, see them organized as albums, and enjoy and share them using iPad’s elegant slideshows. iPad makes it easy to watch movies, TV shows and YouTube, all in HD, or flip through the pages of an ebook you downloaded from Apple(Apple A1012 Battery)’s new iBookstore while listening to your music collection.

Laptops and Smart Phones - The Most Used Mobile Computing Products by Chief Executive Officers in Europe Laptops and smart phones are the most commonly used mobile computing products by European CXOs. Web-based collaboration tools, which the European CXOs find valuable particularly while travelling, are also gradually gaining importance.

Yet there have been some encouraging developments lately for Macs in the enterprise. Desktop virtualization, which can eliminate some of the hassles around desktop operating systems, has started to take hold. Also, IBM(ThinkPad T40 Battery) just joined the Enterprise Desktop Alliance, a group of software developers who've banded together to deploy and manage Macs in the enterprise.

Mobile-based applications, both location-based and multimedia contents, are relatively new concepts with significant potential for the service providers. "Among the various mobile communication and computing products and services surveyed in this research, all European CXOs use or own laptops/notebooks," says the analyst of this research. "They perceive reliability as the core function of their laptop/notebook with all other features being less important."

A recent article from Lawrence Berkely Laboratory suggests that readers should 'Pull the plug. Your battery will thank you.' Researcher Venkat Srinivasan writes about batteries and Inspiron 6400 battery chemistry rather specifically, but without becoming overwhelmingly technical. He explains how batteries begin to fail, and suggests keeping your computer unplugged as a way of extending the life of your battery. I pulled the plug on mine as soon as I read the article, and I'm now writing this on battery power.

Should you find your way inside a Best Buy this weekend, Samsung(Samsung Laptop Batteries) is launching three new laptops that could run out of stock very quickly. The Samsung R480, R580 and R780 have the polish and curves of fancy pottery and are equipped with some compelling features, like Blu-ray drives and the latest Core i5 processors. Best of all, they're priced to fly off the shelves.

An Indian mobile phone company has launched a low-cost handset that uses commonly available AAA-sized batteries aimed at the hundreds of millions who live in areas where power supplies are erratic.

Sorry for the blunt headline, but the question immediately came to mind when reviewing the Lenovo(IdeaPad SL500 Battery) IdeaPad S10-3t, a new capacitive touch-screen convertible Netbook tablet that's now available for purchase. We found its design appealing back at CES 2010, and were wondering whether Netbooks such as these could evolve to be a legitimate solution to those otherwise looking for devices like an iPad.

The Entourage eDGe is taking some knocks in this early review from Laptop Mag. The dual screen eBook Reader with an active digitizer that runs Android certainly has our attention here at GBM as well, given the fact that one can use digital Ink.

Well, it seems that your wallet may feel a little bit lighter in a few weeks. Apple(Apple M8416 Battery) announced today via a press release that the iPad will begin shipping on April 3rd and that pre-orders for the device will begin on March 12.Recent rumors have hinted at an iPad supply shortage due to a "manufacturing bottleneck" but component suppliers for the iPad have dispelled such claims, noting that iPad orders will be filled as originally planned.

With Core i3 laptops becoming so incredibly affordable, the A505 lost whatever cache it once had last year and has become just another laptop
[01/03 09:46PM]

The entire chassis of the i1564-6980CRD (and all Inspiron 15 models) is made of plastic. This isn't uncommon for mainstream laptops, but something about its construction makes it feel cheap and generic. The red lid, black display bezel, PA3356U-1BRS,and silver faux-brushed-metal-keyboard surround and palm rest are a glossy fingerprint-collecting plastic, while the laptop's bottom is matte black plastic. On the upside, the plastic keeps the system light, so that should you want to travel with it and not break your back.

Otherwise, the screen size, speakers and bulky laptop battery--a 12-cell--remain largely the same. We can't say that this is the most affordable Core i3, however: in fact, it's one of the more expensive. And, unfortunately, it's as large as a tank. With Core i3 laptops becoming so incredibly affordable, the A505 lost whatever cache it once had last year and has become just another laptop.

The sides are covered in chrome, as are the touch pad and accompanying buttons. Overall, it's a nice-looking design with a touch of whimsy courtesy of some faint pin-striping, silver bubbles, and circular shapes. Of course, we can't really recommend this for regular travel since it's big and fairly heavy (though we've transported heavier).

For just $629, you could get the Asus U50F instead and have a similar computing experience, minus the dedicated gaming graphics and longer battery life. The Satellite(Toshiba Satellite A100 battery) A505-S6025 is a well-constructed, gaming-capable laptop, yes, but also a large one--and for only a hundred more, you could easily enter the realm of higher-end machines. So, despite some decent specs and performance, the system's awkward in-between price works slightly against it.

Arthur Zilberman, founder and owner of LaptopMD, a laptop computer and iPhone repair center, says "Apple(Apple A1189 Battery)'s breakthrough into tablet computing left me under-whelmed. The iPad strangely resembles another one of Apple's more popular products, and is like a supersized iPhone."

So what will you find inside such a beast? You get to choose from different 2010 Intel Core i3 and i7 processors, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 500GB SATA HDD, Intel HD graphics card or a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 card, Wi-Fi g and/or n, a 56 Whr or 85 Whr Lithium Ion Battery, Windows 7 Home Premium, and, naturally, a 17.3-inch HD+ LED Display with TrueLife, camera and multitouch support.

Sophisticated exterior, that is, thanks to an all-new, matte brushed aluminum shell (in “caviar” or “bordeaux”) that seems right at home in first-class. It also lends the laptops some structural rigidity, too.

Like the newly minted Lenovo ThinkPad X201 Tablet, the 2740p has dual pointing devices: a pointing stick with two pairs of rubbery mouse buttons, and a touchpad. Hard drives come in 160-Gbyte, 250 GB, and 320 GB capacities, and the laptop is one of the few ultraportables to still feature a FireWire port. An optional ThinkPad X60 battery slice increases battery life from 5 to 11 hours, when combined with the standard battery. HP is also introducing an Ultra-Slim Expansion Base ($300) for the 2740p, which has onboard a dual layer DVD drive, DisplayPort, E-SATA, and additional USB ports.

HP(HP ZD7000 Battery) will also upgrade several existing N450 netbooks, the Mini 5102 and Mini 2102 (above), by providing N470 models, according to the Register Hardware website. As with the Lenovo netbook, the configurations receiving the 1.83GHz processors are likely to get 250GB or 320GB hard disks instead of the standard 160GB items. Unlike the Lenovo S10-3t, which only comes with Windows 7, the HP devices are also offered with Windows XP, SUSE Linux, and even FreeDOS.

Lenovo debuted the new X201 and X201s notebooks
[24/02 01:36AM]

The Atom processor used is a single core CPU, but it features Hyperthreading, so you get two virtual cores to play with. Unfortunately it seems that 2GB is the maximum amount of memory the unit can handle,PA3284U-1BRS, which is a bit of a pity as it would have been nice to have the option to bump it up to 4GB. That said, the SSD hard drive helps make sure that Windows 7 still runs happily on the X-series.

Enter Optimus, which is an engineering-driven end-run around Intel's new IGP monopoly. Instead of replacing an Intel I/O hub and IGP combo chip with an NVIDIA part, NVIDIA just hangs its discrete GPU off of the Intel I/O hub via a x16 PCIe lane. The PCIe bus provides plenty of bidirectional bandwidth, and given that Optimus sends data to and from the main CPU socket, it needs bandwidth to work at higher resolutions.

Lenovo(ThinkPad R60 Battery) hopes the new Thinkpad line up will attract SMB customers stateside and buyers in emerging foreign markets, according to Mika Majapuro, senior world wide product marketing Download Free eBook - The Edge of Success: 9 Building Blocks to Double Your Sales manager for Lenovo.

We could have lived without the dedicated menu key and a smaller right Shift if that had meant a larger arrow layout, but overall the keyboard is quite nice, and you can certainly pull off WASD when it's time to game. The trackpad is similarly nice: no mulititouch here, but we've always like textured touchpads, FPCBP130,and tracking was nice and accurate. We just wish the buttons were a bit bigger -- we found ourselves clicking dead plastic at the lip of the machine quite often.

Watching media on the U150 is a pleasure, as long as you're realistic about what a 1366 by 768 screen can do. The colors are sharp, and the LED backlit screen performs admirably. One thing to look out for is that the screen is very glossy, making working under almost any bright light a chore. If your personal taste runs towards glossy screens, consider that a benefit.

Lenovo(ThinkPad X60 Battery) also debuted the new X201 and X201s notebooks. The X201 can be had with Intel Core i7-620M, Core i5-540M, or the Core i5-520M CPUs. The X201s can be had with a Core i7-640LM or i7-620LM processor. Both machines can be had with Windows XP Pro, 7 Home Basic, 7 Premium, and Pro Ultimate. Both machines have the same 12.1-inch WXGA+ LED backlit display and support up to 8GB of RAM. Storage is to an assortment of 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm HDDs up to 500GB or 80/128GB SSDs.

These new ThinkPad laptops, tablets and the ThinkServer are all part of Lenovo(ThinkPad T60 Battery)’s push for greater worldwide PC market share as the tech industry looks to rebound from the global recession.

NPD analyst Ross Rubin noted that smartbooks could struggle because it’s not clear that consumers will take to devices that look like laptops but don’t run Windows. The first generation of netbooks ran the Linux operating system, and the category didn’t really take off until they started running Windows. And while smartbooks will be cheap because they’ll be subsidized by wireless carriers, the carriers will be selling Windows-based netbooks as well, Rubin said.

We generally liked the raised chiclet-style keyboard on the U50F, although the keys felt a little more closely spaced than on comparable laptops FPCBP130. The right-side number pad, though a nice addition, is compressed and narrow and could be awkward for number-crunchers. The directional arrow keys are oddly located halfway between both parts of the keyboard, with the right-directional key the lowermost button on the number pad.

Anderson said the Brazil Lake property, which is adjacent to the Avalon Rare Metals East Kemptville project, has benefited from previous drilling and from metal assessment work done at Dalhousie University.Petro Horizon plans to begin exploration work on the property within the next few months, he said, adding that the company will be hiring local people for some of that development activity.

If you intend to use your machine while plugged in for long periods, always remove the battery
[20/02 09:47PM]

Save that cynicism for the concept's other powertrain option: a compact fuel cell/electric setup evolved from the one used in the current F-Cell cars. We have no doubt that the technology itself is genuinely impressive, and we're sure news of its development will be a hit with all the jet-setters at the next snowbound climate change conference.

That leaves us with a bevy of low-power versions of more powerful Intel processors: the Core i and Core 2 Duo chips (as mentioned above) and the Celeron and Pentium processors. The ultra-low-voltage (ULV) Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, for instance, delivers stellar battery life. In a laptopmag.com review, an HP(HP DV2000 Battery) Pavilion laptop lasted more than nine hours.

Compared with the ubiquitous 13-inch MacBook Pro, the Sony(VGP-BPL4 Battery) Vaio Z is not quite as thin, but it's definitely lighter. Despite the full-power processor, its body feels more like a ULV system, which generally trade horsepower for size and energy efficiency. The chassis is a mix of brushed metal and magnesium, making for an end product that feels airy but sturdy at the same time.

There is one major problem (if you ask me) with the new design: the touchpad. Lenovo decied to save space by integrating the touchpad buttons on the touch area, much the way Dell(Latitude D620 Battery) has done with its past few netbooks. Th result is a touchpad that takes some getting used to, at best. Laptop Magazine wasn’t impressed either, saying that “the cursor jumped around at times.”

The computer gets a Windows 7 Experience score of 2.9, with the lowest score gong for desktop graphics performance. It fares much better in the processor, gaming graphics, RAM, and hard drive categories.

But HP's meddling may have doomed it. The Airlife can't run standard Android Market apps. Instead, HP(HP ZD7000 Battery) and the wireless carrier Telefonica are working on their own app store for the device. Android already doesn't have enough great apps, especially compared to Microsoft Windows. HP will have to sell this as, essentially, a fixed-function device.

Still, if you intend to use your machine while plugged in for long periods, always remove the battery. Though modern notebooks will activate a trickle charge once they detect a full cell, this still generates heat which may reduce the lifespan of your laptop battery.

For day to day computing tasks, the MS214 has more than enough power. I had no problem surfing the web with a dozen or more browser tabs open while listening to music in the background. And the graphics processor is capable of handling local HD video content as well as some video games.

The NVIDIA ION chipset also gives the computer a leg up on the competition when it comes to 3D graphics acceleration. I fired up a couple of 3D games including open source first person shooter Blood Frontier, and found that the HP(HP F4809A Battery) Mini 311 was more than up to the task. I managed to get more than 30 frames per second during the few minutes I played the game before I was put out of my misery by enemy fire. Have I mentioned that I stink at first person shooters?

With CES just around the corner, you can expect a flood of new mini-desktops with the updated Intel Atom D410 and D510 processors. But while these systems will likely consume less power than the Atom 330 chip found in the ASRock ION 330, overall performance should be similar.
